Roosevelt defeats President Hoover in Presidential election. 1933- FDR inaugurated, The New Deal social and economic programs passed, 21st amendment ending prohibition passed. 1936- Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell is published, Summer Olympics takes place in Berlin, Germany under German leader, Adolph Hitler. 1937- German airship, the Hindenburg bursts into flames 1939- Albert Einstein influences FDR to create the Manhattan Project, FDR submits defense budget and declares country’s neutrality in war after Germany’s invasion into Poland.
